What is your favorite thing to teach? Native Perspectives, we get to delve into the different cultures and lives of Indigenous people from across North America. Bonus- we get to do cultural crafts!

Why did you become a teacher? I come from a looooong line of teachers. I tried nursing, and that was my major the first time I went to college, but it wasn’t a good fit for me. I loved helping people, but wanted to do it in a different way. So I went back to school and decided I would try teaching. I’ve never looked back!

What was your worst subject when you were in school?  Oh man, it would have to be algebra. I remember telling my teacher I would NEVER use it in real life. Ha! Now I tutor students with algebra. Boy I showed him!

What were you like in middle school? I was a nerd and awkward. I loved to read, and I wore thick glasses and I had an awful haircut. I show my school picture every year to my students so they don’t stress their own picture day!

What’s a funny story (or embarrassing one) from your days in middle school?  An awful haircut! We didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, so my parents would cut our hair at home. I told my mom I wanted a long shag haircut like Rachel from “Friends”. I guess I should have shown her a picture for reference… because instead, she chopped off my hair in a short Beetles like shag and I ended up getting the nickname Bruce Lee for the rest of the school year.

If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Caramel popcorn!

If you could teach any other subject, what would it be? ELA, I actually teach many aspects of it in my classes. Or social studies, I love learning about different people, their cultures and what their lands are like!

What is the most annoying sound in the world? Whining or people saying “I can’t”!

What is your spirit animal? Bluebird, because they represent happiness. Life is hard sometimes, I prefer not to let any of that hold me down. I try to show happiness and love whenever I possibly can, especially to those who need it most.
