Supt. Armstrong reacts to budget cuts, affect on SPS
SAPULPA PUBLIC SCHOOLS - Governor Mary Fallin signed the Fiscal Year 2018 budget bill into law on Feb. 27 which called for a 2 percent cut in General Fund revenue for all state agencies, including education.
The Oklahoma State Department of Education received a cut of $15,357,170. The impact to Sapulpa Public Schools will be $86,000.
"I'm very disappointed that our state leaders cannot find a way to reach an agreement on funding the future of our public schools and the state of Oklahoma," said Sapulpa Public Schools Superintendent Robert Armstrong.
KOTV channel 6 spoke with Supt. Armstrong about the cuts. Armstrong said the district will hold a staff meeting to discuss what's happening.
Gov. Fallin conceded development of a budget isn't easy especially during difficult fiscal and political climates.
"This budget keeps our government operating and, despite challenging circumstances, funds our core mission services. Passage of the Step Up Oklahoma plan, House Bill 1033XX that failed earlier this month would have helped fill our budget hole for the current fiscal year as well as put Oklahoma on a more stable budget path.”
The fiscal year begins July 1.
