Sapulpa High School quiet during teacher walk-out

SAPULPA PUBLIC SCHOOLS - The school bell rang, but the halls were empty. The classrooms, too.

On the second day of the teacher walk-out, Sapulpa High School was deserted.

Most of the lights were off. A stray mop bucket lined the hall outside the cafeteria. As the wind gusted outside, the whipping sounds permeated a few of the hallways. It was an eerie feeling considering it's the first week of April.

"It feels like the middle of summer actually," said Principal Seth Shibley, one of only a few people tending to business Tuesday.

He spent Monday in Oklahoma City with his teachers as they petitioned the legislature to find revenue streams to increase funding for our public school system. Mr. Shibley acknowledged it was odd to have no one in the building, but it's for a good reason - the students - that the school is the way it has been this week.
