(SPS) - Sapulpa Public Schools received a check for more than $174,000 as a rebate for its recent conversion to LED lighting across the district.

Representatives from Oklahoma Gas & Electric presented the $174,548 check to Superintendent Rob Armstrong Monday morning.

The new lights can found in the high school auditorium, school buildings, the Washington Administrative Center, exterior lighting, and many other places district-wide.

The initial cost of the project, contracted through Oklahoma LED, was $616,049 but the net investment after the rebate is $440,932.

The amount of savings each year from reduced energy usage is estimated at $116,217, which will pay for the conversion in just under four years. The district is projected to save more than $1.3 million over the next 10 years.

The money received from the rebate will be used to make the first payment on the project.
