(SPS) -- Holmes Park Elementary and Jefferson Heights Elementary held food drives throughout the month of November to make sure Sapulpa families aren't hungry this Thanksgiving.

They collected cans and other non-perishable food items, and each classroom competed for the most donations. The results of these service projects will make a major difference for Sapulpa families in need over the holidays.

In all, Jefferson Heights Elementary students and staff collected more than 1,400 food items for the "Thanksgiving in a Bag" food drive. The items will be packed into individual bags and distributed to families.

Jefferson Heights' fifth grade class led the service project. Mrs. Clostio's third grade won the donation contest, bringing in 374 items for the food bags!

At Holmes Park, it was a similar scene as students from different classes took turns organizing food donations throughout the month. Cans and boxes were stacked high outside the office.

Holmes Park Elementary students and staff members donated more than 3,000 items for Thanksgiving food boxes. Ms. Romeo's 5th grade class donated 708 items!

The boxes will include a turkey donated by the Galloway family. The Galloways, "Holmes Park Husky" alums, generously make a turkey donation each year. This year, the Galloways provided 30 turkeys.

The food boxes will be distributed to Holmes Park families in need. Additional items will be donated to Caring Community Friends.

Thank you to our students and staff for giving back in such a big way!
