Sapulpa Bands host OSSAA contests

(Article by Riley Groves, SPS Communications/Marketing Intern) -- High school musicians from across the area compete in the OSSAA District Solo and Ensemble contest, held Saturday, March 5, at Sapulpa High School.

The OSSAA District Solo and Ensemble Contest is a state qualifying contest for schools in our region.

Small groups and soloists perform for a judge where they are then scored on a one-to-five scoring system. A one is a superior score -- the highest awarded -- and five is the lowest.

Sapulpa Bands performed seven woodwind ensembles, four brass ensembles, and four percussion ensembles. Nearly 20 Sapulpa students performed solos.

Students spend months preparing for the contest. Hours go into organizing the
schedule, setting up, and running the contest. Students also rigorously practice their pieces for the big day.

Congratulations to the following students for receiving superior ratings at the OSSAA District Solo and Ensemble Contest!

These students and ensembles will go on to compete in State Solo and Ensemble in April. Sapulpa Bands students earned over 100 superior medals at the District contest.
