(SPS) -- Two seniors were awarded the first Core Value Awards of the 2021-22 school year. Seniors Brooklyn Berry and Evan Quinton each received the award for the Core Value for "Character" as the student-athlete award program enters its second year.

The award is given monthly to the student-athlete who best exemplifies the values of Sapulpa Chieftains Athletics - character, humility, commitment, integrity, self-control, mental toughness, team, responsibility, honor, and service.

The winner is selected after nominations are submitted by the coaches and reviewed by the athletics department. In this case, winners. Berry is a Ping Ping and a varsity basketball player for the Lady Chieftains. Quinton runs on the boys' varsity cross country team and for track & field.

"The character of a person or place consists of all the qualities they have that make them distinct from other people or places," read Berry's nomination. "Over the last few years I have witnessed Brooklyn's character grow not only through her daily walk but also in her leadership. She truly wants everyone to be successful and she has a caring heart. It's no secret that she is a servant of Jesus Christ and by example she demonstrates her beliefs and values. She is a leader of many organizations in our school and community and I think she would be worthy of this honor."

Both in the classroom and at practice, he is the kind of student-athlete that exhibits all positive characteristics that make those around him better."

The Core Value Award is sponsored by Tier One Lawn, which gives each Core Value Award winner a QuikTrip gift card.
